5 Days for the Homeless

Along with musicians/students Andrew Lusk and Ben Tramontini, Ivy helped launch the 5 Days for the Homeless 2011 campaign at the Opening Ceremonies on Sunday, March 13, 2011. Here are some photos, taken by Marie-Anne Laplante (V.P. Technologies of the 5 Days for the Homeless Committee).

"Five Days for the Homeless is a charity campaign founded in 2005 by students from the School of Business at the University of Alberta. It is a 5 day campaign in which university students live "homeless" on their campus to raise money and awareness for a local charity."

The University of Ottawa's Telfer School of Management is participating for the first time, this year, in the 5 Days for the Homeless 2011 campaign. Four participants, Josée Archambault, Dmitry Berlin, Sarah Clayton, and Steve Nyenkamp, all students from Telfer, will be living "homeless" for five days to raise money for Operation Come Home.

During the five days, the participants must:
1. Remain on campus from March 13-18
2. Have no disposable income
3. Have no access to food or drinks
4. Have a pillow and blanket
5. Have no access to showers
6. Sleep outside on campus
7. Attend all of their regular classes and complete all of their academic responsibilities

A Busy February Weekend

Ivy recently had a very eventful, but extremely enjoyable, weekend!

The evening of Friday, February 11th, she sang for the uOttawa Vietnamese Student Association's 5th Annual Coffeehouse. Having been a member of the Executive team when the uOttawa VSA held their first ever Coffeehouse in 2007, Ivy was proud to accept the current Executive team's invitation to sing.

On Sunday, February 13th, Ivy was honoured to perform the Canadian National Anthem and two songs at Ottawa's City Hall for the Vietnamese Community's New Year Reception event. Invited to attend, as well as perform, by Dr. Can Le, a very prominent member of the Vietnamese Community, Ivy was among many special guests, such as the Honourable John Baird, the Honourable Sheila Copps, the Honourable David Kilgour, Judy Trinh from the CBC, and many more.

It is events such as the ones that Ivy attended this past weekend, that make her especially proud of being Canadian, and of her Vietnamese heritage.

Montreal's Hoi Nho Hue New Year Celebration

Ivy was invited by the President of "Hoi Nho Hue" to return to Montreal to sing for the Vietnamese Community, and Ivy happily accepted. This past weekend, Ivy performed at Hoi Nho Hue's belated (Western) New Year celebration, which was a sold out event. Mid-December Update

As of January 2011, Ivy will be a graduate of the University of Ottawa with an Honours Bachelor of Social Sciences. Until then, she will be busy writing her final exams and therefore does not have any more performances scheduled until the new year. In the meantime, she would like to share some photos from her most recent performances on November 27 and December 6, 2010.

CASCO

Since September, Ivy has been keeping busy with her studies during her final semester at the University of Ottawa. However, she has also been busy rehearsing for the Telfer School of Management Charity Organization's annual CASCO show.


What is CASCO? From their website here, it says:
"CASCO is a student-run organization comprised of Telfer School of Management students from the University of Ottawa. For the past decade, CASCO has produced an annual gala show, putting the spotlight on the talents of Telfer students. The much anticipated soirée is one comprised of song, dance and fashion, and succeeds in unifying 200 students, 200 business professionals and 200 community members with the common goal of providing support for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and promoting social responsibility among business students. 600 tickets are sold out within 3 weeks every year. CASCO is the training ground where commerce students can apply business knowledge to raise awareness and funds for charity causes, and see first hand what difference their involvement in the community makes."


This will be the third, and unfortunately final, time that Ivy will be performing at CASCO since she will soon be graduating from the University of Ottawa. The show will be taking place on December 6, 2010, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel (101 Lyon Street).
